STORY / GAMEPLAY
You control Captain William Blade, a plastic toy-soldier, an avid combat helicopter pilot in a massive blasting action game. You once again battle against the evil tan army and their terrifying war machines. This Army Men game, which was initially released for the PlayStation, promises lots of fun, action and interactions like picking up dog dishes and fertilizer bags to use against the evil tan toys. The game features four different types of helicopter: Chinook, Apache, Huey and Super Stallion. It is a slightly improved version of the Army Men: Air Attack released a year earlier for the PlayStation. Some changes were made to take advantage of the N64's extra controller ports but the mission structure and control scheme remain largely untouched. Army Men features different mission-based levels, that take you through the Army Men's imaginary plastic world, and via portals into the "real" world, and back again. The multiplayer missions include shooting contests, rescue missions, capture the flag and a race to see who can winch the most food into a machine at the center of the map.
GRAPHICS / SOUND
The 3D graphics look really nice, using texture mapping with very smooth animation and impressive explosions -particularly when you destroy ground units with your missiles. The sound features a nice intro music and some cool sound effects, including occasional voice samples (mostly used when achieving mission objectives).
